People who love animals are abundant. We, especially in the United States, have created multimillion dollar businesses dedicated to feeding, caring for and pampering our beloved pets. Our beloved pets should remain dogs, cats, some birds and some fish.
Any other animal harbored in a home is probably a wild animal that should remain wild. People have brought in chimpanzees and other primates, big cats such lions and tigers, and large snakes to name a few, into their homes as a pet. Is this really a good idea? These animals are at best, completely unable to be domesticated, costly to keep, and at worst, can maim or kill innocent people. The chimp that maimed a woman’s friend is a recent tragic example. Wild animals are wild and unpredictable, even if they have been owned for many years.
If people truly love these animals and want the best lives for them, they should be left alone in the wild. I’m not saying that wildlife veterinarians should be eliminated who help when people find an injured or abandoned wild animal. People feeling they should embrace them as they would a pet or child and care for them as pets do them injustice.
